Meet Mrs. Anitha, a Woman full of purpose:
Mrs. Anitha is an ex-government official and a proactive homemaker based in Hebbal, Bangalore, where she lives with her family. Her husband is a landscape architect and her daughters are settled in Germany.
As she stepped into voluntary resignation, Anitha was determined to make this chapter of her life meaningful, not just for herself, but for the community around her. She wasn’t looking for rest. She was looking for a purpose.
It was her younger daughter, calling from Germany, who planted the seed. She introduced Anitha to hydroponics, a soil-free, sustainable method of farming that was quietly revolutionizing how the world grows food. For someone who had always been health-conscious and deeply curious about where her food came from, it immediately felt like the right fit.
The idea took root quickly. Anitha began envisioning her terrace – unused, sunlit and full of potential, as a space that could give back. But she was careful. She didn’t want to rush into it. For months, she researched, asked questions and searched for a company she could genuinely trust to bring this vision to life.
Where Vision Met Expertise: Enter Happhygreenz:
Happy Harvest Farm Setup By Happhygreenz
That search led her to Happhygreenz Hydroponics, a startup doing phenomenal work in helping people grow and harvest pesticide-free, fresh greens right from their balconies and terraces.
Anitha reached out to Mr. Bharathi and Mr. Rajender, the Founders of Agrowitz Innovations Pvt. Ltd., an IIMB-NSRCEL incubated startup based in Bangalore. She walked them through her vision: a productive, sustainable farm on her terrace that could genuinely contribute to her family’s health and well-being.
The founders listened, assessed the space and got to work. What followed was nothing short of impressive. The entire setup was completed in just 3 days of on-site work: 2 days for installation, and 1 day for testing, tuning and commissioning. A fully functional hydroponic farm, built from scratch in under a week.
The investment? ₹1 Lakh, a purposeful spend for a lifetime of fresh, chemical-free produce.
And so, Happy Harvest Farms by Happhygreenz was born.
Spread across 180 sq. ft. of terrace space in Hebbal, Bangalore, the setup is a thoughtful blend of two hydroponic systems: Aeroponic Tower Systems and an NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) Setup, with a combined capacity of 185 plants. 105 plants thrive in the NFT channels, while 80 plants grow across two aeroponic towers.
To ensure Anitha was never alone in this journey, Happhygreenz appointed a dedicated agronomist Ms. Durga, a B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture graduate from the prestigious Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore. From day one, Ms. Durga was right there, handholding, guiding and answering every question Anitha had. And Anitha had plenty of them. In the best way possible.
She didn’t just want to grow greens. She wanted to understand what she was doing. Under Ms. Durga’s guidance, Anitha immersed herself in learning the working principles of Aeroponic Towers and NFT systems, how to prepare and manage nutrient solutions and how to read and maintain pH and TDS levels. For someone stepping into farming for the very first time, her curiosity and commitment were remarkable.
The Seeding Began:
By Mid-January, the seeding began. Lettuce, Palak, Coriander, Fenugreek, Basil and Pak Choi were carefully seeded under supervision of the Happhygreenz team. As germination took hold, Anitha took charge monitoring sunlight, maintaining moisture and watching her tiny seedlings come to life with quiet pride.
Simultaneously, 98 saplings of Romaine, Green Leaf Lettuce (Locarno) and Red Leaf Lettuce (Lollo rosso) made their journey to Happy Harvest Farms, arriving carefully packed in protrays. By the first week of February, all 80 cocodiscs and 98 lettuce saplings had been transplanted into the aeroponic towers and NFT channels. Mr. Rajender was by her side through this stage, guiding Anitha through nutrient solution preparation and the functioning of both systems.
The Care and Maintenance Phase:
What followed was four weeks of devoted care.
Anitha and her family checked the TDS of the nutrient solution regularly, ensured proper circulation to every plant and kept a close watch for any signs of deficiency. The nutrient solution strength was methodically increased week by week, from 400 ppm in week one to 600 ppm by week four, carefully calibrated to match the plants’ growing needs.
When the tanks needed cleaning, Mr. Rajender stepped in. When a technical issue arose with the NFT channels, it was swiftly resolved. At every turn, the Happhygreenz team made sure Anitha felt supported, not just as a client, but as a farmer in her own right.
The Happy Harvest Phase:
Happy Harvest Farm in Hebbal
By the first week of March, Happy Harvest Farm was ready to give back what it had been quietly preparing all along.
Under the guidance of Mr. Bharathi, Mr. Rajender and Ms. Durga, Anitha and her family gathered for harvest day. What they brought in was a moment none of them will forget: 2 kg of Palak, 1 kg of Pak Choi and 4 kg of fresh Lettuce, grown entirely without soil, without pesticides and with an abundance of love.
It was a bumper harvest. But more than the yield, it was the feeling.
In Anitha’s own words:
“Myself, my daughters and my husband had a visual treat with our plants during the harvesting day. That feeling is something different that I can’t express in words. Special thanks and kudos to our Agronomist Ms. Durga for constantly guiding me at every stage. My sincere thanks to Mr. Bharathi and Mr. Rajender for all the support and encouragement”
The greens didn’t just stay on her terrace. Anitha shared her harvest with friends and family across Bangalore and has now set her sights further, reaching out to local restaurants and cafes to bring her farm-fresh produce to more tables.
